Irrigation recommendations for saving water in fruit trees (apple trees) in the Baix Ter and in the Plana litoral de la Muga 2016

The main conclusions of the study, elaborated by the IRTA-Mas Badia, of the comparative test of criteria of irrigation in apple tree, are:

  • The plot that has been followed by the GIROREG method has used 26% less irrigation water during the whole 2016 campaign, with 3,953 m3/ha, than the plot that has been followed by the traditional criterion of the farmer, which was 5,350 m3/ha.
  • The plot that has been followed by the GIROREG method has produced 95,800 kg/ha, which represents an increase of 1,4% compared to the plot that has followed the traditional criterion of the farmer, which was 94,400 kg/ha. No differences in fruit quality were detected.
  • The value of the production of the plot that has followed the GIROREG method has been 32,580 €/ha, which means an increase of 4,2% over the plot that has followed the traditional criterion of the farmer that has been 31,210 €/ha.
